History:
In 1998, the Institute of Physics created a laboratory for strong interactions, which in 2004 was transferred to the The Joint Institute for Power and Nuclear Research – Sosny of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Since 2012 – Laboratory of Problems of Nuclear Physics and Safety.
The main directions of scientific research:
A highly qualified team conducts research in the following areas:
- fundamental and applied research in the physics of nuclei and elementary particles;
- study of the dynamics of hadron systems (nucleons, nuclei, quark-gluon plasma, hadron jets, vacuum, squeezed, entangled states, confinement) based on quantum chromodynamics, a standard model, phase transition theories, instanton tunneling, deterministic chaos;
- prediction of new physical effects for modern accelerators (LHC (CMS, ATLAS, ALICE), CLIC-CERN, ILC (Japan), NIKA (Dubna, Russia);
- theoretical study of the physical processes occurring in the equipment of nuclear power plants, development in the field of nuclear installations of new generations;
- analysis and modeling of the safety of nuclear facilities using computer programs, the development and certification and verification of software tools used to analyze the safety of nuclear facilities.
On the basis of the laboratory, a scientific school was created in the areas of: nuclear physics, high-energy physics, the theory of stability of quantum systems.
The theory of the evolution of states in a vacuum of quantum chromodynamics, color locking, fluctuations of the gluon field of instantons is developed. Theoretically, new phenomena were discovered – quantum compression and entanglement of strongly interacting particles, as well as an increase in the probability of tunneling, stability, and compression due to external perturbation; temperature hysteresis in a quark-gluon plasma.
Thanks to the labors of the laboratory, an explanation is given for the violation of the dipole dependence of the proton form factors on the square of the transmitted momentum. This dependence arises due to the spin flip of one quark, and the violation is due to flips of the spins of two or three quarks.
Together with the Faculty of Physics of BSU and the Institute of Physics. B.I. Stepanova of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has been publishing an international scientific journal in English “Nonlinear Phenomena in Complex Systems”, indexed by the SCOPUS database for 17 years. For more than 20 years, an international scientific seminar on the nonlinear dynamics of complex systems has been held with the publication of the proceedings of the seminar.
On the basis of the laboratory, a branch of the Department of Nuclear Physics of the Physics Department of the Belarusian State University was created.
The scientific management of the subprogram “Nuclear Energy, Nuclear and Radiation Technologies” of the State Program of Scientific Research “Energy Security, Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving, Nuclear Energy” and the State Program “Scientific Support for the Development of Nuclear Energy in the Republic of Belarus for 2009-2010 and for the Period until 2020” is carried out .
