Belarusian scientists have begun to study the choice of the site for construction of a second nuclear power plant

Belarusian scientists are currently studying issues related to site selection and construction of a second nuclear power plant in the republic.
This was announced by Andrei Kuzmin, Director General of the Scientific Institution “Joint Institute for Power and Nuclear Research – Sosny” of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, speaking at the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia.
“Now, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Belarus, we are studying the issue of site selection and construction of a second nuclear power plant,” noted Kuzmin.
According to the head of the institute, “in this regard, it is of interest to develop and implement small modular reactors.”
“The study confirms that their advantages over traditional nuclear power plants are in lower capital costs and faster return on investment, bringing energy sources closer to consumers, flexibility, the ability to work in a poorly insulated power system, generating heat for technological needs, and improving safety,” Kuzmin said.
