History:

The laboratory was formed as a result of the reorganization of the laboratory of physical, technical and economic studies of the problems of nuclear power plants in February 2010.

The main directions of scientific research:

  • theoretical study of thermophysical processes and justification of thermohydraulic and neutron-physical characteristics in neutron-forming targets of subcritical nuclear systems and fuel assemblies of new generation nuclear power reactors;
  • study of mechanisms and
  • processes of boiling, bubbling, condensation in the elements of power equipment in order to create highly efficient heat exchangers;
  • study of heat and mass transfer and hydrodynamics, modeling of the main thermophysical processes during jet cooling of high-temperature surfaces;
  • study of the mechanisms of heat-mass transfer and flow hydrodynamics in the backfill of microfuel;
  • study of the processes of spraying liquids in nozzles under various thermodynamic conditions, including superheated liquids;
  • theoretical and experimental study of thermophysical processes in the technology of immobilization of liquid radioactive waste (RAW);
  • theoretical and experimental study of the mechanisms and processes of heat transfer using solar energy in the national economy.

Among the most important achievements and developments is the study of thermophysical processes (thermal conductivity, heat and mass transfer, including phase transformations) in neutron-forming targets of subcritical nuclear systems controlled by charged particle accelerators.
By the order of the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Basic Research, in collaboration with the SB RAS (Novosibirsk, Russia), research was conducted on the topic “Creating the Fundamentals of an Energy-Efficient Passive Type VVER Emergency Cooling Sprinkler Sprinkler System”.
Studies have also been conducted to increase the efficiency of hydrogen recombiners. They are based on the analysis and modeling of processes in real environments inside an airtight shell during an beyond design basis accident to ensure hydrogen safety of the first unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant.
The laboratory is involved in the development of technical regulatory legal acts.
A technical code of established practice has been developed and implemented. Rules for the design and operation of localizing safety systems for nuclear power plants: TKP 264-2010 (02300).

Currently, “Temporary standards for calculating the strength of elements of the control system and protection of water-cooled reactors” and “Temporary standards for calculating the strength of VVER intracase devices” are being developed. Studies were conducted on the development and creation of a system of scientific and technical support on nuclear and radiation safety.
On the basis of the laboratory, a technical examination of the 1st and 2nd units of the Belarusian NPP was performed to analyze the safety of the operation of the main equipment of the primary circuit and the steam turbine installation localizing the safety system.
