History:

The laboratory was founded at 12 April 1994 on the basis of the Institute of radioecological problems of NAS of Belarus by the deputy director Phd (technical sciences)V.Skurat with the first name «Radiational-chemical diagnostics of the environment» for studying the distribution of radioactive pollution from Chernobyl in the environment (air, water. underground waters etc.) and its influence on the population.
Most of the scientific workers of the laboratory are working from the first years of the appearance of the Institute of nuclear energy of the Academy of sciences of the BSSR. Before the Chernobyl catastrophe the scientific workers of the laboratory handled with problems, connected with the use of dissociating gases as heat-transfer material and working body in nuclear energy facilities, especially with the development of a scientific project of an experimental-industrial NPP with a reactor on fast neutrons NPP BRIG-300 with the electric capacity of 300 MWt; creation, checkout and analysis of operational characteristics of mobile NPP Pamir-630D with the heat capacity of 5 MWt (electric capacity 630 kWt).
A new work in the work of the laboratory appeared after the catastrophe on the Chernobyl NPP. Since 1989 till 1992 the scientific workers of the laboratory worked on the Chernobyl NPP as part of a Complex expedition under the Kurchatov Institute of nuclear energy. The team studied the state of nuclear and radiation security of the object «entombment» of the destroyed 4-th block of the NPP. On this theme the first technical reports about justification of the nuclear and radiation security were developed. In the framework of the works about the justification of the security the computer program DECA was developed. It was used for the calculation of radiation characteristics of the fuel from the 4-th block of the Chernobyl NPP during an accident. Later on the basis of the results of calculation research the reconstruction of the value of the emergency emission from the Chernobyl NPP was made for the adjustment of radiation outcomes from the accident for Belarus. The scientific workers of the laboratory were also on regular works, connected with the control of life on the polluted territories. After the results of the expeditions were made maps about the pollution in the Gomel and Mogilev regions, polluted after the Chernobyl catastrophe. Now in the laboratory work 9 scientific workers, three of them are PhD
